Mommy Makeover

Becoming a mother is a significant milestone and should be celebrated for all that it brings to your life. However, many mothers look at their bodies after pregnancy and don’t feel entirely like themselves. While some women have the amazing genetic ability to simply bounce back after having children, others find themselves feeling self-conscious even in their day-to-day clothing. Pregnancy can cause loose abdominal skin that hangs, weak abdominal muscles, sagging breasts that lack volume, and excess fatty tissue that won’t respond to diet and exercise.

Mommy Makeover surgery with Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Keyian Z. Paydar in Newport Beach, CA, can help women improve their appearance and confidence after pregnancy and childbirth.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

The term “mommy makeover” refers to a specialized set of plastic surgery procedures that focus on the body and the breasts. These operations are performed together to help achieve a balanced and cohesive figure that improves upon the physical changes after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Due to the individual nature of a mommy makeover, Dr. Paydar will tailor each mommy makeover plan to fit each patient’s needs and goals. Your body and results can be back in your hands when you team up with Dr. Paydar for a Newport Beach mommy makeover.

Dr. Paydar conducts all surgeries at his AAAASF accredited state of the art facility, Newport Aesthetic Surgery Center, under general anesthesia with a board-certified anesthesiologist present for the duration of the surgery.

The abdomen expands to allow room for the baby to grow. Because of this, many women find that their abdomen and waistline are never the same despite strict diet and exercise. Tummy tuck surgery with or without liposuction can be performed during a mommy makeover to provide women with a more desirable waistline and a tighter core or midsection.

The breasts take on a lot of responsibility when it comes to taking care of children. Their size and shape change dramatically when breastfeeding. As the skin stretches to accommodate the milk supply, the skin quickly loses its elasticity, and many women are left with sagging hollowed breasts. Breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, or a combination of two of these surgeries can provide mothers with lifted, perky, and youthful breasts.

Many mothers feel self-conscious about their bodies after having a baby. They often are too embarrassed to wear swimsuits, tight clothing, or anything that might accentuate the changes done to their body through pregnancy. A mommy makeover restores your physique, but it can also revitalize a woman’s self-confidence in how she looks and feels about herself.

A mommy makeover procedure is custom-made to fit you and your needs. You’ll work closely with Dr. Paydar to develop a customized treatment plan that targets every area of concern.

Who Makes a Good Candidate for A Mommy Makeover?

To be a good candidate for a mommy makeover, you must be in overall good health and be a non-smoker. Giving up smoking at least four weeks before and after surgery is required, as smoking limits the amount of oxygen that is able to enter your bloodstream and healing tissue. This can affect how fast you heal. We encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Paydar to determine if you are a good candidate for a mommy makeover.

There are several things to do to ensure that you make the best candidate for a mommy makeover, including:

Finish growing your family

Your mommy makeover will not cause any risks to any future pregnancy; however, pregnancy can cause significant damage to your mommy makeover results, requiring additional treatments to correct.

Be at or near your goal weight

Liposuction or abdominoplasty are not meant to be used as weight loss alternatives. Stick to a healthy diet and exercise routine to get into the best shape possible to make your recovery much more manageable.

Wait several months after childbirth

You don’t want to have your mommy makeover too soon. Your body must have time to heal and recover after giving birth. If you’re considering a breast procedure, you should be completely done breastfeeding and have lost your milk supply.

Depending on what surgical procedures are performed, scarring can vary. Although not completely invisible, incisions will be easily hidden under most garments and bathing suit fashions. Most scars will also fade over time and become less noticeable especially if you take proper care of your incisions during the healing process and always cover them from the sun even after they’ve been healed.

Its an aesthetic operation to rejuvenate the abdomen with a tummy tuck and the breasts with an augmentation or lift or both. Its an operation suited best for mothers whose bodies have taken a toll during pregnancy and with breast feeding.

Its a common operation that we perform and a very safe one as well. Of course we make sure you are an excellent candidate before performing the operation by reviewing your health history with you.

Something simple like a robe or any loose clothing or sweats that can easily be worn or taken off will suffice. There will be limitations to pulling, twisting, or stretching which may be required to remove or put on tighter clothes and there are drains that need to be secured to the clothing or to the abdominal binder in the beginning that may not fit inside such clothes.

That depends on how much help you have with the care for your baby or other children in your household. Due to restriction of no heavy lifting for up to 6 to 8 weeks, you need to make sure you can have this operation and be able to rest and slowly go back to providing care for your family. If there is plenty of help, it is best to be at your normal stable weight and have stopped breastfeeding for at least 3 months before having a mommy makeover.

Mothers, whose bodies have taken a toll from pregnancy and breastfeeding, and those who have a desire to regain the shape of their bodies back and those who have finished having children.

Six to eight weeks mostly for the abdominoplasty portion. After your mommy makeover, you will be placed in an abdominal binder. Our team of anesthesiologists and nurses will closely monitor you for the first few hours after surgery. Dr. Paydar will be available to answer any question or concerns throughout your entire recovery process to ensure there are no complications. You may experience some discomfort which can be remedied with prescribed medicine. We encourage you to walk around the day after surgery to prevent any blood clots and promote faster healing. However, it is important that you avoid any strenuous activity for the first few weeks.

Make sure you have a lot of help around the house as there will be limitations to how much you can lift or stretch or move around the first two weeks. Having a wedge or a recliner for rest or sleep will be helpful in the beginning and some like to use a walker to help with their walking in the beginning since bending at the hip will be required until the skin stretches with less tension on the incision.

I recommend that you are at your goal weight and can maintain that weight before having this operation.

Depending on the anatomy of the patient, need for liposuction, and type of breast operation needed, the operation can last four to eight hours.

Walking is permitted and encouraged immediately and during the first two weeks and will gradually increase to faster paced walking or walking with incline during weeks 3 to 4 after surgery, then some light cardio during weeks 5 to 6 and gradually increase to no restrictions by the 8th week after surgery.

Since I like to maximize the skin tightening portion of the tummy tuck, there will be tension on the lower abdominal incision that requires a week or two of bending at the hip. So sleeping with a wedge behind your back or pillows below your knees or using a recliner to create a beach chair angle at the hip will be most helpful.

Since pregnancy can ruin the mommy makeover results, it makes sense to wait until you finish having children before having this operation.
